I am not sure if people still use this technique but a couple of years ago PBN was one of the most popular methods for building backlinks. They would buy expired domains and build websites for those domains, publish articles, and then strategically link to their main site. This worked in the past but these days PBN is not a good SEO tactics. I have done this in past but I no longer do it now.

It is not more popular. Currently most popular is have social media active page or profile. In future we should see how to get attention from A.I search engines.
