There is a popular high school around me that had parents, teachers meeting today. And I overheard the parents deliberating with the management about how to fix the price of school fees.

I didn't feel good because I thought a school is supposed to determine the fess and just inform students. They know the operating costs more than the parents. Should private schools be democratic in fixing school fees?

I don't think it's right for the parents to be able to determine the school fees. They do not know how much you pay the staffs, they are not aware of all the things you have to sort out from time to time to ensure the school remains accredited, then again there is the issue of maintaining the school and ensuring it remains on high standards.

Parents would always want to favour themselves by agreeing on a lower fee. Schools are not supposed to be democratic but rather logical in determining fees.
Yes that's humans for you. They always want things to favour them. The thing is that know when to agree or disagree with them

When the school throws that decision open for parents, they don't have any option but to agree with what the parents have agreed.

That's the truth, when once you give the parents that privilege they would take advantage to make it in favour of them

I think the school management want to create a balance environment where parents plays inclusive right. The school authority have the right to determine and fix the price without consulting the parents . But the school authority knows there may be consequences and parents can refuse to pay and withdraw their children.

There would never be a balance when you allow parents to be part of that decision. They won't ever agree on a fee that would give teachers maximum pay.

Well, the school may experience mass withdrawal which will affect the school management. There is nothing like reaching a consensus about matter of such importance. The school authority have to give reasons for the increment and what the fund will be used for.

I believe it is not appropriate for parents to decide the fees at schools. They tend to want lower fees but still expect the same quality of education as that provided by expensive schools. This expectation is unrealistic, and if schools were to agree to these demands, it would lead to chaos.
