How did Skype fall to the point that it has been discontinued?

Skype was at a time one of the most popular app in the tech world. It was one app that people used to connect and speak with their loved ones. All of a sudden, it declined in popularity and it has been discontinued altogether.

What is the reason that Skype fell like that?

Having competition that crushed it, there is no other choice but to stop working, at its time it was a necessary tool, today one can make a video call almost anywhere

Skype could not keep up with the competition i guess, back then they had top competitions like Twitter and the likes.

In as much as we would blame Skype as a brand, we should never fail to blame the parent company which is Microsoft.

Skype didn't just promote the brand as much as these newer competitors. That's why it lost relevance and people forgot about it.
