How do you ensure your safety and well-being when doing housework?

I always open the window when I clean the house, even in the winter, since I believe that this improves the cleanliness and removes all of the debris that rises into the air after vacuuming. What other steps can be taken to ensure that the room does not retain the maximum quantity of dirt that is released into the air after cleaning?

I think opening the windows is the best step you can take here, then again always ensure the fans or air conditioners are not on when cleaning.
