At a time, I don't have more than two connections to my mobile Hotspot. Don't want something that would drain my battery.
I always have a single connection to my Hotspot at a time. I don't want my broadband drained by multiple connections.

When the internet connection is intermittent or there is no Wi-Fi, I usually connect one device to my mobile hotspot. However, when I connect more than one device, the connection becomes slower.
No more than 2. I feel that more than two is saturating the mobile access point, so everyone should take this limit into account if they don't want to have any inconveniences with their mobile access point.
