When used effectively, it does puts your products in front of a wider audience without paying for traditional ads.

I display my online products on Facebook Marketplace. They are my direct buyers and some of my FB friends, who invite their friends and friends of their friends. They multiply.
Platforms like Facebook Marketplace can serve as effective channels for reaching customers. That multiplying effect you mentioned, about 'friends inviting friends', is a powerful driver of visibility.
It has a slight impact, but not a whole lot. It all depends if those visitors stay on your site and don’t bounce right off.
Also, if users like/repost your content, it’ll help.
Sites like threads, tumblr and reddit are more beneficial as they provide backlinks to your content. Other social media sites do not.
The facebook marketplace doesn’t help as it serves content from javascript.’you’d be better off building a page around your site and promoting your content there.
That provides better visibility and brand awareness than anything else.
