How reliable is traffic exchange sites?

One of the easy way to get traffic without much stress is through traffic exchange. But i have come to realize that most of traffic exchange sites are giving users bots in name of real human engagement. From my observation, most traffic exchange sites are dubious and spammy sites owned by criminals.
In your opinion, is traffic exchange sites reliable and able to deliver real traffic.

I don't think traffic exchange sites would be any good, unless the traffic is related to your niche.

They’re not reliable at all. They’re an outdated tactic and shouldn’t be used at all to increase your traffic.

Traffic exchange gives you bot traffic, they show on stat but you do not get any kind of human traffic.

A few years ago I also used a traffic exchange site for my blog and site, although traffic increased but it was not listed in Google search, even according to some information I got that using traffic exchange will make the site banned in search engines.

I hadn't made use of any traffic exchange site. I doubt they would be reliable.
