Ever seen a rainbow bagel or sipped coffee while a cat curls up beside you? Quirky food spots like these are popping up everywhere, turning everyday snacks and cafés into Instagram-worthy adventures.

But what makes them so popular? For some, it’s the novelty — the kind of thing you try once just to post about. For others, it’s the creativity, a chance to enjoy food in a way that feels fresh and fun. Whether it’s sushi burritos, charcoal ice cream, or cafés filled with board games, these “weird” concepts are proving that people don’t just eat with their stomachs anymore — they eat with their eyes, their cameras, and their curiosity.

At the end of the day, the question remains: are these cafés built to last, or are they just tasty trends riding the social media wave?

Yes, you are correct. Many visit new cafes out of curiosity and to take photos, especially when the cafe is visually appealing. Some thrive, while others do not. The cafes look attractive but do not give value.

Absolutely! I’m so guilty of this too 😅 Whenever I spot a café that’s buzzing online — especially if it’s nearby — I make time to visit. If it has both the Instagrammable vibe and good food/service, then I’ll definitely go back. But if not… well, at least I got to experience it once and snap a few photos.

In these days and times, only having quality products doesn't drive patronage. Aesthetics really matter in getting patronage in today's business clime.
Totally agree. These days it’s not enough to just have good food — the whole look and vibe really matter. It almost feels like the aesthetic is part of the experience people are paying for.

Agree with you on this, those cafes may not last. There are many here in Limketkai Center, cafes no longer exist. They were so hot in the past and suddenly died . And new ones exist.
Ohhh, that’s kind of sad. It really makes me wonder if it’s better for cafés to keep reinventing their theme or just stick to being consistent with quality. Staying relevant after the novelty wears off seems like such a challenge. Do you think constant reinvention is the key, or is focusing on consistency better in the long run?

That's the reality that there is no guaranteed business and even no guaranteed job. I have a milk tea and I know for sure that it won't last. There will be another kind of tea that would stir the market. I already have a plan for a replacement in case worst comes to worst.

Yes, I feel the same way. I visit cute cafes to take photos and maybe write about them on my blog, especially if I enjoyed my experience. However, if I didn't enjoy it, despite its aesthetically pleasing facade, I won't go back. Lol

I don't really think they are built to last unless the owner makes this kind of food as some sort of special dish, while the regular menu still remains intack.
