I have heard a lot about Black Seo, is it really effective or just an unnecessary risk?

Lately I have found several comments in digital marketing communities about the so -called "Black Seo" or "Black Hat Seo". As far as I understand, it refers to techniques that try to manipulate the algorithms of the search engines in a unhealthy or contrary way to their guidelines, with the aim of achieving rapid results in the positioning. Some examples that I have read include the excessive use of keywords, generation of artificial links, link farms or even the creation of low quality automated content.
At first glance, it may seem attractive because it promises to raise a website to the first positions in a short time, which is tempting for those who want immediate results. However, I have also read that Google and other search engines become more and more strict with this type of practices and that a penalty can completely destroy the visibility of a page. That makes me think if the supposed short -term benefit really compensates for the high risk of losing credibility and traffic in the future.
On the other hand, I find it interesting that there are agencies and freelancers that still offer these types of services as if they were a valid option. I wonder if in some very competitive or short life niches (for example, temporary fashion products or specific events) can become profitable, even if it is only temporarily.
I am personally more inclined to think that it is best to build a solid SEO, with White Hat practices and a slower but stable growth. However, I would like to know what those who already have real experience in the subject think.

In what cases do you think "it is worth risking with Black Seo" and when should it definitely be avoided at all costs?
