On Friday 5/Sept/2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted an operation at a Hyundai factory under construction in the state of Georgia. Authorities detained and placed in custody 475 workers, all of whom, according to the Trump administration, were allegedly working in the United States without proper authorization. Nearly 300 of those detained are reported to be South Korean nationals.

It's a massive operation and will undoubtedly generate a lot of controversy. I'm surprised by the number of foreign workers involved, especially so many South Koreans. Beyond legality, these actions always have a severe impact on families and the local economy. I think these types of situations show how complex the immigration issue remains in the United States.

For years, millions of Americans like myself have simply wanted to see the immigration laws of this country enforced fairly and justly, without fear favor or prejudice. What I see here is that principle being enforced; it sucks for South Korea and for Hyundai but the law is the law.
