According to the report, Israeli troops who seized strategic ground in southern Syria after Assad’s fall will remain on Mount Hermon “indefinitely,” Defence Minister Israel Katz said.
The report said that Israel says its troops have taken up positions inside a UN-monitored demilitarised zone within Syria, and some have ventured beyond it.
The report also stated that Israeli officials previously said that the moves were limited and temporary, to ensure the security of Israeli borders. Katz's announcement came during a meeting with Israeli military officers on the Syrian side of Mount Herman, as per reports.
The report added that earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said the Israel Defence Forces might remain in the buffer zone throughout 2025.
The IDFs stay on Mount Hermon there means a lot to the people for their protection. The Syrian rebels are still aggressive in attacking the civilian Syrians and may proceed to Israel passing Damascus.
