Imprisoned Writers Win Sakharov Prize for Human Rights

The European Union just awarded its prestigious Sakharov Prize for human rights to two journalists who are currently behind bars—Andrzej Poczobut from Poland and Belarus, and Mzia Amaglobleli from Georgia. According to reports from NTB and AFP, both have been imprisoned in their home countries, but their voices clearly haven’t been silenced.


Roberta Metsola from the European Parliament praised their bravery, saying it’s turned them into powerful symbols of the fight for freedom and democracy. The Sakharov Prize, which has been around since 1988, honors people who’ve made a real impact defending human rights and freedom of thought.
