According to the report, Iran has fired two missiles at the Greek Cypriot part of Cyprus Island, hosting British troops, the British defense secretary John Healey said on March 1. The incident marks the first case of involvement of an EU country in the ongoing war in Iran. "We don't believe they were targeted at Cyprus, but it's an example of how there is a very real and rising threat from a regime that is lashing out widely across the region," Healey stated.

The report stated that the defense secretary cautioned that Iran is striking back in a more reckless and far-reaching manner, citing assaults on an airport in Kuwait as well as hotels in Dubai and Bahrain. Healey also said that 300 UK military personnel were close to the targets in Bahrain. Some of them were several hundred yards from the missile strikes, he revealed. The Defence Secretary’s statement came a day after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer revealed that the UK had ordered ‘planes in the sky’ over the Middle East on defensive operations.

Additionally, Healey reiterated Starmer’s calls for Iran to end its missile strikes and steps back from its increasing uncontrolled, indiscriminate attacks in the region, and give up its weapons programs. Tehran launched an unprecedented attack on US allies in the Middle East, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar, in retaliation for joint US and Israeli air strikes across Iran on Saturday morning. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in Israeli strikes on his compound in Tehran. Defence Minister and the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, IRGC, were among multiple senior officials killed in the US and Israeli airstrikes.
