According to the report, Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry announced plans to evaluate mining operations that fail to follow good mining practices in the wake of devastating flash floods in Sumatra. “Any mining activity that has any impact on the environment must be prepared. We will evaluate it, including mines and others,” said ESDM Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia, speaking from Jakarta on Monday.
The report stated that there is a need to review the government's plan to avoid mishaps in the coming days when a monster storm may suddenly attack their country.
The report also stated that the ferocious flood was caused by mining that damaged the ecosystem. Critics argue that mining has long placed Sumatra at risk.
