Installing Windscribe VPN

Since some websites are blocked here, require a VPN urgently. Windscribe is a free VPN. it is not clear whether the browser extension alone is sufficient or the app/software also has to be installed. Does anyone use the VPN, if yes, can they share their feedback?

The website extension is not enough for Windscribe. And the free version cap barely lasts up to a month.

I want to use the free version only once or twice, to check a website which has been blocked for a few months now without any prior notice to the users.
