According to the Former US Ambassador to Tunisia, Gordon Gray, he drew parallels between the current protests in Iran and the 2011 Arab Spring. He believes that after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria in December 2024, Tehran faces a similar crisis caused by economic collapse.

The report stated that a key difference between Iran and the Arab Spring countries is the loyalty of their security forces. In Tunisia and Egypt, the military refused to fire on protesters or even forced leaders to resign. In Iran, the IRGC and paramilitary forces remain a reliable support system for the regime. However, Gray notes, regime survival is different from its success. Without decisive reforms and a response to the economic and social demands of its citizens, the Islamic Republic is ultimately doomed.

The report added that the former CIA director bluntly stated that the Khamenei regime is dying. He emphasized that the regime, relying on forceful suppression, but is incapable of halting its disintegration.

Gordon Gray's analysis, which provokes a brutal debate. Comparing the current protests of 2026 to those of the "Arab Spring" of 2011 shows how dangerous Tehran this especially after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria in December 2024.
