Iran’s shutdown of the internet, which activists fear masks a crackdown they say has k!lled hundreds, has now lasted more than three-and-a-half days, a monitor said Monday
“As Iran wakes up to a new day, metrics show the national internet blackout is past the 84-hour mark,” monitor Netblocks said, saying that the blackout could be circumvented with shortwave radio, connecting to cell coverage at borders, Starlink, and satellite phones.

Iranians took to the streets in new protests Friday to press the biggest movement against the Islamic Republic in more than three years, as authorities sustained an internet blackout as part of a crackdown that has left dozens dead.

In the case of Iran, with the internet shutdown, it is alarming and indicates how serious the conflict inside the country has become. For me, the most noticeable part about this whole scenario is that it has been going on now for over 84 hours, not only restricting communication but also trying to hide the oppression that has allegedly left Iran with “hundreds” of dead citizens. For me, as an individual, the fact that citizens keep marching in the streets despite this censorship indicates how strong the social movement remains, the biggest in the last three years in opposition to the Islamic Republic. Interestingly, despite this censorship, other ways such as short-wave radio communication, border communications, and even the use of satellite internet such as “Starlink” have been proposed, showing the resourcefulness of citizens who remain updated on the situation. For me, though, it is essential that this shutdown cannot dampen the cry for freedom. In the end, I believe this protest remains alive.
