Population is directly related to market and is a valid indicator of the viability of a business in a particular location. When the population density of a place is high, the higher the potential for your business to do well in such a location.

The bigger the population density of a place, the easier for you to have customers for your business. A populated location is an indication of a strong market for businesses.

I think it is more of the target audience not necessarily about the population. if you are having a higher population of your target audiences then you would make more money that's it.
