Would you consider religion to be a business? Well, this topic might sound controversial but other day I was listening to an interview of an Indian politician who was defending why spending money building temples was good for the country. He said about 18 cities in India are entirely depended on religious economy. Religions keep these cities afloat. Do you believe in this theory that religion s good for the economy.

Some religious organisations are being run for profit making. And that makes them businesses. Genuine ones exist though.

The life of Indians are entangled with religion. Marriages and different religious ceremony and festivals are celebrated in temples through which many people earn their living like the priest, cooks, serving people, florist and so on.

That is a different thing to a religious institution existing for the sole purpose of making profits. In your instance, the religious institution must generate revenue to sustain itself. But the ones in my country, they want to generate profit for the founder of the religious institution.

In my opinion, religion is not a business because it cannot make a profit, in its activities religion only accepts donations from its congregation. Temples, churches or other places of worship are often used as meetings for the rich, officials and businessmen, especially after they pray,

Religion is a big time business in my country. Self styled religious leaders approach religion like real entrepreneurs.
Thats the truth it is always the best to have a personal relationship with God and leave religion. it is a full time business now.

In India some religious gimmicks do this.

I follow Islam, so I can't say much about followers of other religions. I am a Muslim and it would be really disrespectful to consider my religion as a business. I follow Islamic religion and there are a few principles associated with business that are taught by my religion. For example, as Muslims, we are not allowed to consume interest/usury. We should not steal or scam people. We should be really honest when it comes to business dealings. We should deal justly and fairly with all people. However, considering Islamic religion as a business itself, using deceptive methods to make money by using the name of Islam, or profiteering off from Islamic religion in itself is very disrespectful and a huge sin.
