Is the portable WiFi worthwhile to have?

As the technology continues to advance, more and more gadgets emerge to make the work more easier and efficient. So my query is, does the portable WiFi really worthwhile to have?

If you are the type that is always on the move, then it I think owning a portable wifi would be important.

I don't know why people even need the portable WiFi when almost all smartphones can easily serve as a portable WiFi connection with hotspot.
