According to the report, Israel warned the US that it could strike Iran alone over its missiles, The Jerusalem Post reported, citing sources. Israel told the Americans that it would strike alone if Iran crossed the red line regarding ballistic missiles. Tel Aviv considers Iran's missile weapons program an existential threat, and does not rule out unilateral action if necessary. Furthermore, sources fear that if US President Donald Trump decides to strike Iran, the operation will be limited. Washington could select a few targets, declare success, and leave Israel to deal with the consequences, as it did with the Houthis.

The report stated that Iran has warned that in the event of an attack by the United States, the republic will strike American bases in the Persian Gulf region. The officials stressed that Israel reserves freedom of action and emphasized that it will not allow Iran to restore strategic weapon systems on a scale that threatens Israel’s existence. One defense official described the current moment as a historic opportunity to deliver a significant blow to Iran’s missile infrastructure and neutralize active threats to Israel and neighboring states. In this case, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares to travel to the United States to discuss the progress of US-Iranian negotiations with US President Donald Trump.

The report said that the dialogue between Tehran and Washington has resumed for the first time since the 12-day war in Oman on February 6, 2025. The US side described the consultations as good and expressed confidence that the Iranian leadership is willing to reach an agreement. The problem, however, is that Tehran is unwilling to make concessions on key issues: uranium enrichment, its ballistic missile program, and assistance to loyalist groups.

The report added that the Israeli prime minister had originally planned to meet with Trump at the White House on February 18. However, as US officials told Axios, Netanyahu requested an earlier date. This occurred on the day the US and Iranian delegations met in Oman. A source familiar with the upcoming talks, according to Axios, notes that Netanyahu's visit is intended to convey to the Iranian leadership that Trump has other options if the diplomatic process fails. However, as previously reported, the Jewish state believes that a full-scale operation against Iran requires a more powerful force than the one the US has amassed since mid-January.

Additionally, Omani diplomats acted as mediators between the Americans, led by Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and the Iranians. Admiral Brad Cooper, the head of U.S. Central Command, also participated in the dialogue for the first time on the American side. There are no signs yet that Tehran is ready for significant concessions. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who led the Iranian delegation in Oman, stated that his country will not abandon uranium enrichment for civilian purposes.
