Zoo workers in Japan have gone to extraordinary lengths to comfort fans who have been heartbroken after the last panda was returned to China. At Adventure World, south of Osaka, staff donned panda hats and let visitors pet them, in an attempt to entice visitors to join the panda lovers’ club.
For a fee of 8,000 yen, visitors can dress up as zookeepers and take part in a program that simulates the real work of caring for the animals. Activities include preparing food, observing the animals’ behavior, filling out daily reports, and inspecting the safety of exercise areas.
The 90-minute session also gives visitors the chance to feed apple slices to staff in their enclosures, attempting to replicate the experience of feeding the pandas. It’s a creative way to keep the pandas in love even after the real animals have left.
