In a move that has generated a heated debate about technology addiction, a town in central Japan is seeking to limit smartphone use for all 69,000 of its citizens to two hours each day. The Toyoake municipal administration in Aichi made the plan earlier this week, and lawmakers are currently debating it. It is said to be the first of its sort in Japan. According to the mayor of Toyoake, the idea, which only applies outside of work and school, is intended to "encourage" locals to better manage their screen time rather than being strictly enforced. If lawmakers implement the rule, it will be passed in October and there won't be penalties for breaking it.
