From the Manila, Philippines report, the Korean government will donate 2,016 metric tons of rice to the Philippines this August to support food security and disaster response efforts, the Korean Embassy in Manila announced.
According to the report, of the total, 1,616 metric tons will go to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), while 400 metric tons are allocated to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the embassy said in an announcement dated July 22. This donation aims to support swift responses to humanitarian crises and persistent rice shortages in vulnerable communities.
The report also stated that through this contribution, the Korean government hopes to support the Philippine government’s efforts in advancing food security, responding to natural disasters, to addressing the impacts of climate change.
The report added that the turnover ceremony will take place in Manila in August. However, no specific date has been announced. The donation was part of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve’s Tier 3 program, where Korea is an active donor.
In addition, in the economic field alone, Korea has already topped the list of foreign investors based on projects approved by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), less than a year after the entry into force of the Korea-Philippines Free Trade Agreement.
