A court in Labinsk, Krasnodar, has sentenced Natalia Danelián to four years in prison for grand larceny. She was found guilty of swindling more than one million rubles from the wife of a Russian soldier who went missing in action in Ukraine.
According to the investigation, Danelián used video fortune-telling techniques to convince the woman that her husband was safe and would contact her soon. He then pretended to be her husband and demanded money from her to “return home.”
Between June and September 2024, the soldier’s wife transferred more than one million rubles to an account provided to her. The court also fined her 100,000 rubles and sentenced her to one year of house arrest.
Meanwhile, the soldier’s whereabouts remain unknown, and Russian authorities have said there is no new information about his fate. The case has raised concerns and highlighted how emotional vulnerability can be exploited by fraudsters.
