Lamu Port Berth 4 Operational, Handles First Large Cargo Ship from Asia
The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has officially commissioned Berth 4 at the Lamu Port, marking a significant milestone for the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor. The berth received its first vessel, the MV Jubilee, a container ship carrying machinery from China. Managing Director Captain William Ruto (no relation) stated that the operationalization of a fourth berth enhances the port's capacity to serve as a key transshipment hub for the region. "This brings us closer to realizing the vision of Lamu as a gateway to East and Central Africa," he said.
