As of early November 2025, US President Donald Trump has stated that he is not currently considering sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. However, he has left open the possibility of changing his position in the future.

Despite Trump’s reluctance, CNN reported that the pentagon has given the White House the green light to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine concluding that it would not relatively affect U.S. military stockpile. The assessment was reportedly delivered to the White House before trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in October.

Ukraine has repeatedly requested Tomahawk missiles to strike deep into Russian territory and weaken Russia’s war efforts by targeting oil and energy facilities. Zelenskyy discussed the requests with Trump in October but a transfer was not approved.

On the other hand, Russia has waned the US against providing Tomahawk to Ukraine, with Vladimir Putin stating that such deliveries would represent a completely new stage of escalation between the two countries. The Russian Foreign Ministry has also stated that militarization and arms supplies will not lead to any settlement.

The Tomahawk cruise missile is a long-range, precision-guided weapon capable pf striking land target over 1,000 miles away.

From my perspective, the potential delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine represents a very delicate turning point in this conflict. Although the United States has not yet officially decided, the option to send them could change rapidly, and that would trigger a very dangerous escalation. Ukraine needs effective weapons to defend itself, and the Tomahawks would be a powerful tool for attacking strategic targets in Russia, such as energy facilities, but their use could also broaden the conflict and increase international tensions. Russia's stance, warning against escalation, is understandable, since any increase in Ukraine's military capabilities on Russian territory could be seen as a direct threat. I believe that, at this moment, the balance between supporting Ukraine and preventing a global war is very fragile. Diplomacy must prevail to find solutions, because an uncontrolled escalation will only bring more destruction and suffering.
