According to the report, Lebanon has formed its first full-fledged government since 2022, with new Prime Minister Nawaf Salam vowing to implement financial reforms and oversee post-war reconstruction, reported Reuters.
However, the process was marked by strong US opposition to Hezbollah’s role in the cabinet.The 24-member cabinet, evenly split between Christian and Muslim sects, was announced after weeks of negotiations between Lebanon’s rival factions.
The report said that Government positions in Lebanon are traditionally divided along sectarian lines, with Hezbollah and its ally Amal typically selecting Shi’ite Muslim ministers.A major point of contention was Washington’s firm stance against Hezbollah’s influence.
