According to the report, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is investigating a Utility Vehicle (UV) Express driver who rammed several motorcycles along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. In a statement on Friday, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao assured that the Intelligence and Investigation Division will focus on the probe.

The report also stated that the 51-year-old driver, identified as Ruel Dela Cerna, was driving a UV Express that rammed multiple motorcycles along Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay UP Campus, near the central office of the Commission on Human Rights.

The report added that Dela Cerna was arrested by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD)-Traffic Sector while LTO personnel administered sobriety and alcohol breath analyzer tests on the driver. He will also be tested if under the influence of a drug.

In addition to the report, one rider died, according to reports quoting QCPD Director Col. Randy Glenn Silvio. Initial information released said 13 motorcycles and a car were rammed by the UV Express.

What happened in Quezon City is truly concerning, especially since it involved the loss of one life and multiple injuries. The driver, Ruel Dela Cerna, acted irresponsibly, and the LTO investigation is crucial to clarifying exactly what happened and determining whether there was negligence or some other cause. It is important that the authorities act decisively, not only to bring justice to the victim but also to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future. The presence of alcohol or drugs in these cases always exacerbates the situation and puts innocent lives at risk. This type of accident reminds us of the importance of respecting traffic laws and driving responsibly. Hopefully, the investigation will shed light on the matter and serve to strengthen road safety campaigns in the city.
