Luzon's public hospitals and health centers will soon use new AI software to detect tuberculosis early, benefiting the over 700,000 Filipinos affected by this disease. This project is a collaboration between the Philippine Business for Social Progress and Siemens Healthineers Philippines, a medical technology company. The AI software's use will include 28 health centers and hospitals in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Central Luzon, and the National Capital Region.

Elvin Ivan Uy, executive director of the Philippine Business for Social Progress, said that three regions have more than 60% of the country's tuberculosis cases. Using World Health Organization figures, he said that the Philippines is the fourth biggest contributor to worldwide tuberculosis cases.

He stated Thursday that while their reach may be limited geographically; they expect these AI tools to help local health workers perform more accurate and effective patient screenings. Also, he said that, they expect the 28 AI-equipped devices in the three regions to screen about 126,000 people each month.

With the help of AI technology provided by Qure.ai, results can be delivered in a matter of seconds, significantly speeding up TB diagnosis and allowing patients to receive early treatment.
