American Family News: National defense analyst believes that Russian drones were testing NATO defenses
A national defense strategist thinks that the incursion of dozens of Russia drones into Polish airspace may have been intended to check NATO defenses.
Russians drones invaded Poland airspace several days ago. Since then, Poland activated Article IV of the North Atlantic Treaty, which allowed Poland to call NATO together to convene since they believed they were being threatened. NATO has now put Russia on notice, issuing a stern warning after Russian drones violated Polish airspace, reports Fox News.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said air defenses were activated and successfully assured the defense of NATO territory. He also further affirmed NATO’s support of Ukraine in their war with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said as many as two dozen Russian drones may have entered Polish airspace, though Ukraine was working to verify the number.
Robert Maginnis, former Army Infantry officer, national defense analyst, and president of Maginnis Strategies, LLC, spoke with AFN about what this could mean. "If it's a mistake, it's quite a blunder. If it's done on purpose, it was intended to check NATO's reflexes and what level of incursion would be tolerated. We know early in the war, we had an incursion by a single drone, and this time it was dozens,” explains Maginnis. “I think something like this, especially going through Belarus airspace into Poland, indicates that it was as provocative as it was anything else."
Maginnis thinks that NATO's response was pretty straight forward. "They defended their airspace, and they condemned the Russian actions. Then they reiterated their support for Ukraine. So, this is more of Putin, on the international stage, testing what he can do and what he can't do and seeing whether or not the NATO allies are resilient, capable of defending themselves,” says Maginnis.
Maginnis thinks that the “Ukrainian mess” is not close to being over.
