Dear Discussion Bucks Community,

We wanted to provide you with an update on the recent maintenance that began at 17:30 UTC on August 14th. Our objective was to upgrade the Xenforo software, the platform that powers Discussion Bucks. This was a significant upgrade, one of the larger ones that only happen on rare occasions, intended to enhance the forum's overall performance and features.

What Happened?

As part of this major upgrade, we also needed to ensure that all our special addons (features and plugins) were compatible with the new version of Xenforo. Unfortunately, we encountered an issue with one of our critical addons—the one responsible for managing credits and account balances.

During the third hour of maintenance, we discovered that this addon was causing forum pages to become unresponsive. At that point, it was too late to reverse the addon update, as downgrading once upgraded isn't possible.

Restoration Process

To resolve the issue, the only viable solution was to restore the website to an earlier time period. This restoration process took several hours, which is why the website was offline for an extended period. However, we took the precaution of backing up all website files just minutes after entering maintenance mode, ensuring that no data was lost.

What's Next?

While we await a resolution from the developer of the credits addon, we've also used this time to assess which features and addons are fully compatible with the new Xenforo software and which ones still need adjustments.

Looking Forward

Rest assured, we are working diligently to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. Once the credits addon issue is fixed, we will schedule another maintenance window to finalize the upgrade. We anticipate that this next round of maintenance will go smoothly, and we will notify you well in advance.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through these challenges to improve Discussion Bucks for everyone. We’ll keep you updated with any new developments.

Best regards,
The Discussion Bucks Team

Hi Devin,

It's advised that you duplicate this forum and run the upgrade on a test forum. See the following guide for a successful upgrade:

Furthermore, DragonByte's add ons are all 2.3 compatible, so what's the issue you ran into specifically?

The only issue with the upgrade was specifically DragonByte Credits. DragonByte credits causes some pages to go unresponsive, more specifically member profile pages. With the credits addon enabled this was a recurring issue. When it was disabled, the issue no longer persisted.

That is indeed a weird thing. You upgraded both the XF software, disabled all addons, and systematically upgraded all add ons and then enabled them?

Yep. Everything was completely normal. Went through everything one by one, took a tad over three hours, after this it was discovered that DragonByte credits was causing the unresponsive pages. Not entirely sure how it was happening but something within the DragonByte code is causing a block on the profile pages.

Can't say for sure, I don't have any background info. XF2.3 had it's fair amount of troubles so far, so you're bound to run into an issue somewhere. Whether it's XF itself or an add on. But as I said before, always run a duplicate test forum to prevent these kind of issues.
