Male Lion mauled his keeper in Nigeria University

Yesterday in University in southern Nigeria called Obafemi Awolowo University, a male lion mauled a zoo keeper who have been feeding him for nine years. According to the school press release, the victim have been in charge of the zoological garden for more than a decade. The veterinary technologist, Olabode Olawuyi was killed while trying to feed the male lion and its mate.
The other members of the staff who are at the scene of the incident did everything within their power to rescue the victim, but is very late.

This is tragic and although the lion knew his keeper these animals are still wild and cannot be fully tamed. I used to follow Kevin Richardson who was known as The Lion Whisperer as he had an amazing relationship with lions and I wonder if one day his luck will run out and he will get mauled. I don't think a wild animal can ever be fully trusted.

This is very sad. In 9 nine years animals recognise people but the lion could not. That's why it is said that many animals are there which are not faithful.

I think the lion wasn't properly tamed. And do zoo keepers have to enter the cage to feed these wild species?

No, there are not allowed but the care taker might have thought that lion must be knowing him and won't harm him but he was proved wrong

There should have been ways to feed the lion without actually entering the cage directly, to prevent issues like this.

It's possible the guy was careless cause he felt he has been doing it for nine years now so he is used to the lion and the whole process.

Yes, it may be the reason, the care taker might have thought that the lion won't hurt him after knowing him for so many years.
