According to the report, a man has pleaded guilty to helping an on-duty officer dump a victim's body, with cinder blocks attached to it, into a river. Joshua Rogers, 33, pleaded guilty to his involvement in destroying evidence related to police officer Patric J. Ferguson's fatal shooting of a man identified as Robert Lee Howard Jr.
The report said that Law & Crime reported that prosecutors said Ferguson enlisted the help of Rogers to dispose of the body after Ferguson kidnapped Howard at his home on Jan. 5, 2021, forced him into the patrol car, and then shot him in the head. They then took the body in Rogers’ vehicle, affixed chains, padlocks, and cinder blocks to it, and dumped it in the Wolf River in Memphis.
It took almost 4 years to apprehend this suspect who was helping the police officer dispose of the dead body of the victim. The DOJ said Rogers admitted to acting in a manner that "impaired the integrity or availability" of Howard's body for use in an official proceeding, thereby shielding Ferguson from criminal liability. Rogers and Ferguson were charged following the death of Howard.
A sentencing hearing for Rogers was scheduled for Aug. 6, 2025. He faces a maximum penalty of 70 months in prison under the plea agreement. A federal judge will determine the sentence based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
