A group of about ten people have been volunteering for weeks to collect white rats that were being kept in a house in Rocky Point, 70 miles east of Manhattan, Long Island. So far, they estimate they have rescued more than 450 rats and still have about 30 to catch before a severe winter storm hits the area.
The volunteers have been working with a local animal hospital to care for and rehabilitate the rats. It's an effort that combines compassion and courage, showing how communities can work together to save living creatures even in difficult circumstances.
