The report said that the Marines deployed to Los Angeles, California are expected to begin operations soon. Their deployment comes amid ICE raid protests. About 700 Marines are still undergoing civil disturbance training at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach in Orange County, California, said Maj. Gen. Scott Sherman, head of the task force that’s overseeing the deployment of the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles. Sherman wouldn’t speculate about when the Marines might join the 2,000 or so Guard troops that have been deployed in downtown areas to protect federal buildings during sometimes violent demonstrations against President Trump’s immigration crackdown. Another 2,000 Guard troops were expected to mobilize on Thursday, he said during a news conference.

ICE asked the LAPD for help and the LAPD refused on instructions from mayor Bass. ICE then asked Trump, and Trump under Section 10 mobilized the National guard to protect federal buildings and federal employees which they are doing. The marines are a backup for the National Guard in protecting federal buildings and federal employees. As the rioting and looting developed the Sheriff of the LAPD admitted that the LAPD was overwhelmed trying to control the rioting, violence, destruction of property and looting which is their responsibility. Now suddenly the Sheriff of the LAPD says he doesn't understand why the National guard is in LA. Perhaps mayor Bass threatened the sheriff if he didn't criticize Trump and the National Guard.
