Marriage of convenience which means marrying for a selfish motive. This still happens in India. Men marry to get an unpaid maid servant with security. The security is dowry and woman marry for financial security which they rarely get if they are not employed.
Unemployed wives in India are treated like door mats. I would advice the Indian women to first become financially independent and not marry selfish and money minded people.

There are actually a lot of cases like this over here. These days it seems most people get married just to secure their future financially or in one way and the other.

Indian men want to secure their financial status but want to make their wives into unpaid maid servant.

Wow that's not fair though, what if the wife wants to have a career of their own? Like over here we have so many wives who are focused on their careers.

Very few men support their wives having a good career. They think their wives as their competitors. That's the reason divorces are increasing in India.

For a man to think his wife is a competition to them, or their husband is a competition to them, they definitely having serious inferiority complex issues.

From years India has a macho society where the man is thought superior and therefore they can't tolerate a woman's success in career.

Wow, that's unfair, There is no give and take and no respect to each other's feelings being treated like a doormat. The ladies must be wise.
That's the reason a professionally successful woman has become choosy about a partner or prefers to remain single.

It is essential to achieve financial stability and independence before marrying. Some marry for financial security because of how hard life is.
Indian women are now learning to be self reliant before marriage but are not always successful. Thus they have to submit to the pressure of their husband and in- laws.

Very better to stay single than dealing with a such a pitiful marriage. When Indian women have no success getting a career, it's still better to engage in a cleaning or any other humble job than marrying in a pitiful condition where treated like servants (very better to become a paid cleaning lady as a job, for ex. a cleaning job in a hospital).

Manual labour is looked down upon in India. That's the reason children of parents who have white collared jobs are not allowed to do such jobs

Supposing children of parents who have white-collar jobs have the possibility to find a white-collar job for themselves (or, at least, a high-rewarded blue-collar job) if I don't mistake...
Then there's no problem. If children of white collar job holders also get well placed, in such cases the women are in a better social position where exploitation by in-laws or husband is concerned. They fear the financial well established daughter-in-law, unless she is wicked.

That's another reason to pursue an University degree (when it gets impossible cause of lack of money to pay for books, tuition and fees, it's desirable to pursue at least a craft school's certificate (for ex., a tailor's certificate, even better a master's tailor, as my mother did when she was 22 years old) to secure at least a discreet job to ensure financial independence. Averagely, it's never a big deal to financially depend on husbands for whatever peppercorn.
