Mexico is now facing a health emergency after reporting 9,351 confirmed measles cases, more than 24,000 suspected cases, and 28 deaths in 2025–2026. The Ministry of Health’s daily report shows that the infection is still spreading rapidly in different parts of the country.

Between February 11 and 12, there was an increase of 164 new confirmed cases and more than 590 suspected cases. This is a sign that the virus is still spreading strongly and is not under control.

The 28 confirmed deaths are directly linked to measles and are spread across seven states. Chihuahua has borne the brunt with 21 deaths, while Jalisco has reported two deaths. Sonora, Durango, Michoacán, Tlaxcala and Mexico City have each reported one death.

Chihuahua also continues to be the national epicenter of the outbreak, with more than 4,500 confirmed cases. Jalisco follows closely with 2,365 cases, confirming itself as the state with the second highest number of infections. Other states such as Chiapas, Michoacán, Guerrero, Sinaloa and Mexico City have also shown an increase in new cases.

In total, measles has spread to 335 municipalities across the country and affected all 32 states. This is indicative of the geographic expansion of the outbreak, which has now spread beyond the borders of the original areas.

Colima, although not having the largest number of cases, has emerged with a high rate of infection per 100,000 inhabitants, indicating a high risk for its residents. Jalisco, Chiapas, Sinaloa and Tabasco also have high infection rates, confirming the intensity of this outbreak.

This situation emphasizes the urgent need for vaccination campaigns and strict infection control measures, as measles continues to spread rapidly and affect large areas of Mexico.
