As social media usage increases, concerns about its impact on mental health, especially among young people, have grown. Research suggests that spending too much time on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter can increase anxiety, depression, and feelings of inadequacy. However, for many, these platforms are a source of connection and expression. How can we balance the benefits and risks of social media for mental health? What responsibilities should platforms have when it comes to the well-being of their users?

I used to be quite active on social media but have cut back significantly. Now, I only dedicate around 30 minutes to an hour each day. There are even days when I avoid social media because I have noticed how it can adversely affect my mental well-being. It is vital to disconnect from technology once in a while. Getting fresh air outside or finding other offline activities can be helpful.

People who use social media, especially the younger audience needs to learn how to filter what they consume. They should not take everything they see on social media to be true or let it affect their thoughts.
