A 54-year-old man in Emilia-Romagna, passing through financial issues, didn't report his 90-year-old mother's death (due to natural causes) to the authorities to not lose her pension. He put her corpse on a sofa and covered it with pillows. The police, called by the family's neighbours who didn't see the fourth-aged woman during months, discovered the corpse in the garage. It looks like in my former country the habit of not reporting the death of third and fourth-aged parents became the way to survive for people distressed cause financial issues.

In my current country, the verification (physical or online) of all pensioners constitutes a Social Security law. In my former country, first of all, it's necessary to align salaries with the cost of living (to not talk about the fighting of the shamefully high rate of unemployment) . It should be a specific government's duty, but such a duty has been neglected since the year 1995. So I'm not astonished that such an episode like this is becoming fairly common in my former country.

This is sad but people do this because of their financial needs. These days as the unemployment is increasing so the mentality of the people is also getting sick.
Exactly. Last year, another middle-aged man (in his case it was worse, as he was completely unemployed) hid his mother's corpse (in his case it was another time worse, as he hid his mother's corpse in the freezer) because her pension was his only resource to survive. He had no other means to survive, considering that in my former country it's pretty impossible for a middle-aged to get a job (cause of a tax system that's shamefully unfair). Obviously, I'm not making an apology for such a conduct, but I understand where despair can lead hungry people.

Maybe this man, who hid his mom in the garage, is in jail. In that case, he can have free food. His relatives should help him. That is the problem of a person who does not go to school, get a degree, and find a decent job for their future.

In such a case there's usually not jail (as his mom's corpse has been discovered after a few months, so he didn't receive her pension during many years after her death), but a very severe fine that costs an arm and a leg. A lot of times, in my former country, especially considering the middle-aged (and older people), they couldn't go beyond primary school cause of lack of money to pay for a higher educational level. At their time (also at my time), even governmental schools had expenses that not all families could afford.
