According to the report, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday said crisis alert levels for Filipinos in the Middle East remain amid continuing tensions in the region.

The report stated that in a statement on Monday, the DFA assured that the Philippine government, through its embassies and consulates in the Middle East, would continue to assist nationals.

The report said that the Department of Foreign Affairs continues to coordinate closely with Philippine Foreign Service Posts in the region and has actively monitored the situation over the past 72 hours to ascertain the status of Filipinos in their respective jurisdictions. Our Posts remain on the ground and vigilant.

The DFA said Alert Level 1 (precautionary phase) is issued “when there are signs of internal disturbance or instability, or when an external threat is limited to a specific area. The DFA added that Alert Level 2 (restriction) means violence or instability has spread to neighboring areas, or attacks become imminent, while Level 3 (voluntary repatriation) is raised when unrest escalates significantly. He said that Alert Level 3 calls for mandatory evacuation due to large-scale civil conflict or full-blown external attack.

The DFA also said that Jordan, where the largest number (41,462) of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) currently reside and work, is under Alert Level 1. It said that countries under Alert Level 2 are Iran, Kurdistan, Israel, and the West Bank in the State of Palestine. Filipinos in these countries are encouraged to shelter in place, avoid high-risk areas, and exercise increased caution, with travel discouraged.

The report added that Alert Level 3 is imposed on Iraq and Lebanon, while Gaza is under Alert Level 4 due to large-scale conflict or full-blown attacks. The DFA said Israel has 30,347 OFWs, while Iran has 823, and Gaza and the West Bank have a total of 411 OFWs.

In addition to the report and the Palace briefing on Monday, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the Alert Level 2 declaration is sufficient to trigger a deployment ban for newly hired OFWs.The DFA advises Filipinos to note the contact information for assistance.
