Devastating flash floods in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand have left over 100 people missing and at least one person dead. Roads and buildings were immersed by a huge wave of water that rushed down the mountains into Dharali village on Tuesday, triggering rescue efforts in the Uttarkashi district.
According to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, around 190 persons have been relocated from the impacted area thus far.
Although India's weather forecasting bureau has not verified it, state officials said that a cloudburst—a quick, strong downpour over a short area—was the cause of the flash flood.
