According to Namibia's environment and tourism department, over 80 buffaloes died after stomping on one another and drowning in a river.
According to the statement, the buffaloes "fell from a deep cliff" into the Chobe River on the Namibian side of the border while being pursued by lions in neighboring Botswana. Similar situations have already resulted in the death of hundreds of buffaloes. In one of the worst incidents, almost 400 buffaloes died in 2018 after they fell into the river that runs through Chobe National Park in Botswana, a popular tourist destination noted for its enormous population of giraffes, buffaloes, and elephants.
