Morocco have become the first African nation to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after thrashing 10-man Niger 5-0 in Rabat on Friday, September 5, to seal top spot in Group E.

Ismael Saibari struck twice in the first half after Abdul-Latif Goumey was sent off, while Ayoub El Kaabi, Hamza Igamane and Azzedine Ounahi added further goals in the second half to complete the emphatic win.

The victory, Morocco’s sixth in a row, lifted them to 18 points, eight clear of Tanzania, ensuring qualification for their seventh World Cup appearance with two games still to play.

Morocco's qualification is historic because it marks a major step forward for African football. Winning 5-0 and securing first place in the group demonstrates the competitive level they have today. It's also a sign that the team is heading into the World Cup with confidence and good form. It will be interesting to see how far they can go in 2026 with this performance.
