12-year-old Bridgit Njoki was sitting in her family's small house on Monday, watching television as rallies against the government swept over certain parts of Kenya. She was unaware that her living room would become the scene of deadly incidents between these demonstrators and Kenya's armed police. Lucy Ngugi, Njoki's mother, told the BBC that a single bullet entered the house through the roof, puncturing the ceiling and hitting Njoki in the head. She was declared dead in the hospital within a few hours. "She was my everything," Ms. Ngugi sobs in her home outside of Nairobi, the country's capital. "She was all I had."
