Yui Inoue was sentenced on May 2 for the murders of her 7-year-old son, Kai Inoue, and her 9-year-old daughter, Mia Inoue.

The report said that at that time, the killer had an argument with her husband about finances and her pan to move back to Japan. Inoue's ex-husband left the apartment before police arrived because his wife became physically aggressive and used a meat cleaver to destroy his electronics. At that time, when officers arrived, both children were alive and sleeping. The officers left without further incident.

According to prosecutors, after the officers left, Inoue went into her children’s bedroom and held each child down on the floor while she delivered dozens of blows to her children using a meat cleaver and she struck the kids 100 times. The prosecutor said that Inoue received an additional 35 years in prison for the child abuse and disorderly conduct convictions, which will be served consecutively to the life sentences.
