Must I write a description for every funds that I send to someone?

Whenever we are sending funds to someone electronically , there is a always a place to write a description or purpose for the funds. Must I always write a description in every funds I send? Is there a possible consequence that might arise from not writing those descriptions?

I think it is safe to write descriptions for transactions so people know the purpose of every money that enters their accounts.

It is actually optional to fill that space in my country. But I think it is necessary to fill it. It doesn't take more than two sentences to fill.
