While renovating her home, a Calgary resident found a dried-out wedding cake that had been stored for decades in the attic.

Sarah Rankin, who bought the home in 2022, said she was surprised to find the cake stored upstairs. Her online search showed that the type of cake was popular between the 1940s and 1960s.

The cake had been stored in a plastic bag from a Coop store. Rankin believes it was a fruitcake, a type of cake that can last a long time because it is often filled with alcohol, covered in marzipan and buttercream to prevent rotting.

She found the cake while looking for the source of an air leak in the house. Although she tried to contact the heirs of the previous owners of the house, she was unsuccessful.

Rankin said she would like to see a photo of the wedding and find out who owned the cake. For now, she plans to return it to the attic. His nine-year-old daughter said it smelled good and wanted to taste it, but Rankin ended up laughing and saying that wasn't a good idea.
