Airport security personnel are no longer allowed to touch the passengers’ passports during terminal entry following reports of damaged passports. The NAIA personnel are instructed not to touch the passenger's passports effective Tuesday, this week.
The passengers will only be asked to show their valid ID or travel document by holding it up themselves. The Department of Transportation and the Civil Aeronautics Board have launched an investigation into reports that some travelers were allegedly refused boarding by airlines due to defective passports. Some passengers were not able to proceed to their destinations, domestic and international flights, because of damaged passports. It will be investigated how the NAIA personnel handled the passports, causing them damage.
