Now, starting November 1 2025, parents of children under 13 in New Mexico no longer have to worry about paying for daycare. The government has made universal childcare free regardless of income, saving them an average of $12,000 per child per year. This is like a lifetime jackpot.

You know, in the US, childcare has become a burden, more than rent or college fees. A 2023 survey showed that nearly 79 percent of families do not have access to affordable daycare or it is too expensive, which prevents them from even finding or continuing a job, especially for mothers and black families who often spend a lot of their income on daycare for their young children.

New Mexico was one of the poorest states, but now it has become a role model. It has eliminated income caps and copayments, and funds are being sent directly to providers. They plan to add thousands of new slots and providers. They are also setting up a loan fund of millions to help build or expand daycare facilities, plus incentives for programs that pay staff at least $18 per hour.

In short, this move has put New Mexico on the national radar, and as the Chinese say, a drop of water can break a rock. then one policy action can change the lives of millions

I find this initiative truly positive and necessary. Personally, I believe that access to quality early childhood education and, in this case, affordable childcare, should be a fundamental right, not a privilege. The financial burden faced by many families, especially mothers and marginalized communities, limits their employment opportunities and affects their well-being. New Mexico's decision to offer free childcare for children under 13 is a huge step toward social and economic equality. Furthermore, by eliminating income limits and reducing costs, they are creating a more inclusive and equitable system. It's inspiring to see how a policy can transform lives and open doors to a more equitable future. I hope other states follow their example because, frankly, this can make a difference in the lives of millions and change the social landscape in the long run.
